Meet the Filmmakers

Bringing Your Rose Garden to life

A Growing Partnership

The songwriting/filmmaking team of Alexis Harte and Josh Peterson has produced films that have won top prize at film festivals around the world, including a world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival (Thirsty, 2021) and Best Music Video at Cinequest and Oxford International Film Festival (The Night of My Death, 2019), and Amarcort in Rimini, Italy (Thirsty). They released their pandemic anthem Hold On directly to the public in 2022.

Words and Music

Singer/Songwriter Alexis Harte won a Peabody Award and an Annie Award in 2017 for penning the song "No Wrong Way Home," for the Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning short film Pearl. In addition to scoring shows for Netflix (Trash Truck) and placing songs in countless network shows and films, Harte has shared stages with Taj Mahal, Cat Power, Dar Wiliams, and many others. He is also a regular performer at Berkeley’s Freight and Salvage.

Moving Pictures

Filmmaker Josh Peterson worked for many years as a freelance editor on major documentaries including the award-winning Born This Way, The Rape of Europa, The Welcome, and Skin of Glass. He has also written and directed several films of his own, including the award-winning short Forest Born. His first feature, Like Reply Share, won the Audience Award at Cinequest in 2020, and he is currently on the film festival circuit with The Unbroken Sky, a dramatic short based on the memoirs of Dr. Francisco Jiménez.

Major Funder

We thank the UC Berkeley Chancellor's Community Partnership Fund for providing initial funding for this project. Established in 2006, the Fund supports projects and programs that establish, extend and strengthen collaborative partnerships between UC Berkeley and the wider Berkeley community.

UC Partner

The UC Cinematic Arts and Production Club (CAP) was founded in 2018 with the mission of allowing more student filmmakers at Berkeley to share their stories through motion pictures. They are now an organization with over fifty diverse, talented individuals who work tirelessly on original productions every semester. CAP students are supporting Your Rose Garden as a dedicated research and production team, receiving mentorship and hands-on training in every aspect of filmmaking from Alexis and Josh.
